WHAT IS THE BEST SOAP FOR ME?

April 13, 2012 - 3:10 am No Comments

Soap is the oldest cleanser around. Although lye is used to make soap there is no lye left after the chemical reaction that makes soap is complete. Different kinds of soap are made using a variety of different oils. A detergent is a kind of soap available in the store today is not really soap at all. Alkali, the most common irritant in soap is often the culprit. These include ingredients such as DEA, Isopropyl Alcohol, BHT and the commonly found in anti-bacterial soap. The attractiveness for tallow for mass producing soap is that it processes quickly, produces a hard bar of soap and is cheap and plentiful.

The best way to make soap is to mix the vegetable oils and lye at perfectly controlled temperatures 8 ounces to every 32-35 pounds of soap base should be added as well. No preservatives or synthetic fragrances should be added. Every wash gives you approximately 1 drop of pure essential oil in a way that is therapeutic to the skin due to the high essential oil content per bar of soap. Natural soaps can stimulate and wake you in the morning and it’s good for women’s health too. It can give scent that is for a relaxing romantic interlude and also help in cellulite treatment. It is recommended that you seek out and inquire about the soaps you are using and make an effort to locate a natural, vegetable based soap bar. Read the rest of this entry »

PREVENTION BETTER THAN CURE

March 7, 2012 - 3:17 am No Comments

An important task for each parent is to protect their kids from acquiring diseases. More diseases are better prevented than cured. It also gives more saving for the family. A part of kids’ health is prevention through vaccination and also healthy living.

Here is a list included in the EPI or Expanded Program of Immunization as of 2011. At birth, babies are given Hepatitis B vaccine. The first dose is given within 12 hours of life with the following doses given at least 4 weeks apart. Another vaccine given at birth is the BCG or Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine which is used to immunize against tuberculosis. The next vaccination is the DPT or the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine given at 6 weeks at 4 weeks apart. Same schedule also applies for the OPV or IPV or polio vaccine and HiB or the H. influenza vaccine. Measles vaccine is given as early as 9 months but can be given at 6 months when there is an outbreak like what we had last year. MMR or measles, mumps and rubella vaccine are given at 12 months with a second dose given at 4 to 6 years old. Contradicting to what most people believe, vaccines do not protect your kids 100% from acquiring the disease but it does prevent your precious little ones from acquiring the complications brought about by the disease.

Other vaccines not in the EPI but definitely worth taking are varicella vaccine (for chicken pox) Hepatitis A vaccine, Rotavirus vaccine (for diarrhea caused by Rotavirus), Influenza vaccine, Pneumococcal vaccine (prevent from pneumonia causing bacteria) and HPV or Human Papilloma virus vaccine (the one that causes cervical cancer).

An important aspect your little man or girls’ health is to start them early in healthy living. I see kids nowadays getting obese and eating a lot of junk food from fast food chains and even at home. Mothers usually think that chubby kids are healthy kids. Not always.

Globally, there are an increasing number of obese children under the age of five. This is very alarming. Obese kids are prone to developing cardiovascular diseases at an early age. What can we do? For starters, let’s know what makes people gain weight. There must be an imbalance between eating energy rich food and physical activities. Kids food nowadays are energy rich hence more sugars or carbohydrates. We can see that in most of the junk food in the market. Making them choose to eat these instead of fiber and vitamin rich food is unacceptable. As parents or guardians, we should know better. And we should find ways of making them eat the right kind of food. Another factor that could lead to obesity is their physical activity. At the moment, no kid has not heard of PSP or Nintendo Wii. They have Cartoon Network or Disney Channel which cater their needs for enjoyment. Much worse, they eat in front of the TV making them not able to control the amount of food intake also the lack of physical activity. I think that we should reinforce physical activity and include them in our child’s daily activity. Engaging to sports or the arts like dancing can be helpful. Also, teach them to be responsible and help with some of the chores could help.
